Hi,
My husband is leaving me and we are starting into mediation in the next week or so. I would like to understand how child maintenance is calculated. We have one child. I will have custody of our child while he will get access rights.
I’m assuming some items of expenditure will be a 50/50 split e.g. childcare.
What happens to other items though such as the mortgage? The mortgage is a joint one so in that case I assume he should pay 50%.
1. I am investigating taking over the mortgage myself. If that happens, how do I calculate how much he should pay towards our child’s accommodation?
2. How do I calculate how much he should pay towards upkeep of my car/petrol/insurance/tax? The car is essential for our child based on childcare location/other family location/activities.
3. How are holiday costs calculated? What contribution should he make to that?
I have looked at the Excel spreadsheet on solo.ie but it’s out of date & I don’t understand the calculations.
I have a good level of income & I want to be as independent as possible however he needs to pay what is fair for his daughter.
Thanks, Independence
