I need help buying shares , I am thinking of buying 5000 Euro worth of shares (non Irish and non UK shares at the moment) and was wondering if any one out there (especially those who are actively trading) had any opinions on the best way of going about this. I bought shares through AIB/Goobodys about 10 years ago but I found them a bit expensive and I didn’t feel as if I was getting good value for money. Maybe they have become more competitive since then
These are my must haves and nice to haves.
Must Haves:
· Cost, as low as possible I am only interested in execution only transactions, I am not really interested in paying extra for each transaction just because I have the facility of getting advice from the stockbroker (which I will probably never avail of)
· Reputable, I don’t want to be dealing with some fly by night Stockbrokers
· I want the shares to be held in my name and not in some nominee account
· I don’t want to be paying annual charges on the account
· I want to be able to reinvest dividends into my shareholding
Nice to Have
· Internet access that will allow me to executes trades
· Abilty to use stop losses .
· Ability to trade Share options

I use Firstrade and find them very good. Easy to set up and manage and can't go wrong with $6.95 trades with no annual fee. You can only invest in US markets but that's not a problem for me.
