Buying bed linen

I'm probably asking the impossible here.

I want to buy bed linen (has to be white). Something that feels as cool and luxurious as fancy hotel stuff but easy-care. I am not one of life's ironers.

Any ideas? Or do I have to go for one or the other?

Some great value easy-care stuff there, Betsy Thanks for that. Seems almost too cheap. This is the dearest of the easy-care range. Does anybody have any thoughts?

You need a high thread count in a percale sheet (I think!). Had the fortunate experience of staying in the new Shelbourne earlier this year and boy oh boy are those sheets worth every cent. It says on their website they use 300 thread Egyptian Cotton. It is definitely one of my aims in life to track down sheets of a similar quality at some stage...but the easy care non iron version of course.

Try . I bought "Sheridan" 300 thread percale sheets online during the week. They are lovely and of good quality.

I'm a committed thread-count girl and once you've sampled 300+ (oh-er missus), you'll never go back. Unfort, I do think you won't get the best of both worlds - the 300+ stuff is all cotton so will need to be ironed. Although I just don't bother ironing them, you could also send them to the laundry for a wash, dry and fold, which should be around a tenner for a load. They won't be as good as ironed, but that will get most of the creases out.

Have never seen the poly/cotton mix at that thread count - worth a shot for €20. Try one and let us know how you sleep!

Penny's had some white percale bedlinen a few years ago, it seemed a bit lighter than normal but it was definitely percale soft. And it's true, once you go percale you'll never go back - anything else feels like sandpaper !

Re the ironing thing - if you shop carefully, launder carefully and ever so slightly lower your standards then you need never iron again (By "launder carefully" I mean either fold clothes carefully straight out of the dryer, or shake out the wrinkles well before you hang them on a line or airer - but don't fold in half, if you can't hang it on a hanger then peg at the corners or drape over the flat surface of the airer).

With bedlinen there's a lot to be said for pulling a duvet cover taut, too, it pulls out any minor wrinkles.
