Buying a printer ...

Any particular recommendations? Recommendations for printer retailers (on line or otherwise)? Running costs (cartridges)?

The printer will be for fairly light use. Colour would be preferable (which probably means inkjet rather than laser for cost reasons unless there are some unmissable deals out there).

Don't buy a Lexmark.
The printer is cheap enough but the cost of the cartridges is horrendous!

Printer

I bought an Epson R300 from Amazon.co.uk for 108 Stg. Great printer! Prints high-quality photos. Ordered it on Friday last week and it was delivered Tuesday.

Cheapest Irish retailer had it for 199 euro.

(BTW I got a multi-region DVD player for 34stg at the same time)

Amazon is a joy. Last year I got an Sony digital camcorder from them for 75% of the Irish price.

epson is best bang for buck

epson carts are cheaper and clones like these ones are filthy cheap

www.ink4art.ie

buy an epson . Non 'photo' epsons handle photos perfectly well by the way

i saw elsewhere that canon are cheap on original carts so consider them too. HP dell and Lexmark , no.

total cost

Think about the total cost, as some one already pointed out, the printer itself can be quite cheap, but the consumables (paper, ink etc.) quite expensive. Inkjets seem to start at E60-80, but lasers can be as cheap as E200, which will work out alot cheaper if you're printing in any volume and B&W is ok.

HTH.
