Butter price increase August 2024

Kerrygold 454g gone up to €5.49 in Dunnes (and SV I think) yesterday (from €4.95).

Lidl/Aldi/Tesco own brand butter was still €3.79 yesterday when I checked locally.

That's tariff's for you. increase 10% for non-US markets so you can subsidise the US exports by decreasing price there.

*this might not be true and accurate reflection of the reasons for the price increase.

Butter is a luxury good now.
So is home heating for some people.
Others like to be comfortable and enjoy life a bit.

Richard Curran in yesterday's Sunday Indo:

"Higher meat and grocery prices are coming for consumers, as farmers manage to land very high prices for milk, beef and lamb.

It appears the prices are partially down to Brexit. We thought Brexit would diminish demand for Irish meat exports to the UK, but farming in Britain is in trouble since Brexit.

EU subsidies have not been fully replaced by London and animal slaughter in Britain is falling. They can’t get enough of our dairy and meat products – which is driving up the price attained by Irish farmers.........."

Shrinkflation - a pound of Kerrygold is now 400g. "New" indeed.
Connacht Gold is still 454g and 50c cheaper - Connacht Abú!
