A question about having a registered trading name that is not being used to trade. If you have one and thinking that you plan to use it but decide not to would it be best to leave it listed or would it be best to cease it. I was thinking that if it stays listed then you may eventually have a paper chase with revenue or other departments.

A registered business name doesn't protect it from being used by anyone else. For that you either need to register a company or take out a trade mark (or something similar) - talk to a trade mark agent for advice on that. As regards getting a call from the Revenue this may occur and a response that you are non-trading should suffice.
