Hi,
a friend of mine has an idea for a business. Are there any professional bodies out there that help out with creating business plans?
We don't know where to start in that respect.

There could be thanks!

Actually I think I have sussed out a fas course that should cover it.

Hi kerinsp,

I know that there are some accountants out there who specialise in "start ups" and building up a business plan.

Who is your business plan for? Is it for yourself to enable you to plan your business? Is it for the banks and other providers of capital to help convince them to lend or invest? Is it for the purposes of getting grant aid from various govt agencies?

Hi,
Its for my wife actually, she has an idea to start a consultancy business with a friend of hers so perhaps the plan could be more for themselves to enable them to plan it all out like you say and not neccessarily for getting up front funding from the banks.

I had a feeling though that accountants did that type of work so thats good to know too.

What business is your wife in ?

I recently started out on my own in the consultancy world aswell - I hope they have work already lined up ?

Hi kerinsp

Having recently gone the self employed route myself I can empathise with your wife.

I am currently attending the Dynamic Start up Business course run by FAS in Blanchardstown IT and it is a good course and gives guidance on how to develop a business plan. Particularly useful is the planning process for your own business and where you want to take it in a number of years. I suggest that your wife should sit down with her partner and both outline what their business and personal objectives are over the next few years so that they can decide how they get to their goals.

Also she could look at the following web site to get some guidelines on what she needs to look at www.startingabusinessinireland.com. this gives info on what is involved in starting businesses and what needs to go into a business plan.

Best of luck to your wife in her new venture

C
