Over the years i have accumulated a large number of differenct sized pots. As i am no longer an active gardener i was wondering would it be an idea to sow various types of bulbs in them which would not warrant much work. Any suggestions as to type of bulbs or anything else would be appreciated.

You could do some herbs as well dewdrop. Parsley, thyme, coriander, sages. Oregano come in a lovely yellow, and form a mat. You could also do some leaf lettuce and spring onions in the bigger pots. All are relatively attractive plants as well. For bulbs you might try the stunning Amaryllis, very exotic looking, but keep slugs away. Some saxifrages for summer blooms. Daff's and Narcissus are lovely for early spring, dwarf tulips, endless varieties, lavenders, rosemary as a herb and a flower. You might also sow some Lollo Rossa lettuce, deep red and delicious. and maybe some dill. None of these would be hard work.

Great idea, but you will have to water them every day in summer and twice in hot dry weather.
Its not a lot of work, but flowers inpots will wilt very quickly and the soil in a pot will not absorb enough water to last long.

Its worth it thought, an array of pots looks great.

Stack pots together, they form a micro-climate and this reduces water loss. Avoid dark pots and include water retaining crystals in the compost mix should help too. You can also add a layer of minibark to some of the pots with bulbs as well.
