Building Materials - Cost

Is there any indications out there of a reduction in the overall costs of building materials?
I would have thought the slowdown in activity in the UK/Ireland and beyond might be resulting in some downward pressure..

i thought due to the boom in china & india, the cost of materials was actually rising (especially steel) its the cost of labour thats dropping. Plus according to yesterdays sunday times the quality of builders work is improving as they are no longer in a position to fall out with architects & get a bad reputation
