Hi,
I'am looking to get prices on building materials for a new house.
Such items as insulation for floor/walls, blocks, cement, stone (for filling),concrete,timber,slates...the list goes on!
Did anyone get any good deals that they want to pass on?
Or know of anywhere in the wexford area that is reasonable with their prices.........Or will I have to go the long way about it ie. ring every building supplies place in leinster!!

I gave WBS a copy of my plans & they gave me a quote on everything required from insulation to door handles for the house, cost 150e & seemed quite good price.I'm going to give set to wallace's of wellingtonbridge, heard they were very competitive, then go to both to see who will give the best price.

When I was doing my house up 5 years ago I went into my local builders providers I.B.S. told them what I wanted and they set up an account for me.

Best to do it this way so you can call the hardware place and have them deliver stuff to you and you pay at the end of the month or whatever.

Regarding prices if you are buying enough stuff off them they'll (whoever) be reasonable with you.

Thanks, that is a good idea! Never thought of giving them a copy of the plans. I have rung around a bit though, and I did try Wallaces and they werent too bad - middle of the road really with prices. I tried Cleary Doyle, they were cheapest out of the few I tried and spoke to a nice chap, who gave me his name (Thomas) asked me to let him know and we'd haggle it out between us - seemed keen for the business and thats what you want.
Hey Feardocha - maybe if we both dealt at the same place we'd get a better saving?! - wherabouts you building?

When you say cleary & doyle, which one did you try, they own wbs aswell,i'm building in kilmuckridge but not sure when, few things holding it up

Not sure which one, somewhere in wexford I only got a ph no. (91 46577)
We're building near Bunclody. Not quite ready to go yet either, but would you be interested in using the same supplier (we could pick someone who suits us both distance wise) in the hope of making an extra saving?!

Might be worth a try but i've no idea when i'm going to start, unfortunately I have to sell existing house first which as everyone knows is gonna be very difficult. If you give them your plans anyway you should be able to get a good deal by playing them off each other price-wise,specially in these times.

Best of luck sellin the house, we had awful difficulty and have decided to rent it out now. Least we hav a house to fall back on we can't make the repayments on the new build!!! But hopefully that wont be the case!

We're in the same position so,best of luck with the new build, hope everything goes smooth!!
