Builder's costs: can he add 10% delay charges without it being discussed in contract

Hi, we are in difficult discussions with our builder who has given us an invoice and because of various delays in finishing the project on both sides (i.e. there is blame with builder and us), he has added an overall 5% increase for materials costs and 10% delays increase to the overall bill. This was not outlined in our original contract and now the builder is threatening to picket our gate if we don't pay. One of the biggest problems is that our architect was not proactive or involved with the process, but shouldn't he have negotiated this for us? We are meeting with architect and builder tomorrow so if anybody has any advice, I would really appreciate your help!

Do not go to the meeting without your solicitor being present.
