Budget: new grants for boiler scrappage & solar batteries?

From The Journal: Have an old oil boiler? You might be able to get a few grand to replace it under new plan (23 Sep 2026):

The boiler scrappage scheme will see households be offered an additional €2,000 to replace their oil and kerosene boilers on top of existing heat pump grants worth €12,500.

It is expected to be in place from January 2027.

Also:

O’Brien confirmed today that the grants for battery storage are expected to be in place from October of this year.

He declined to say exactly how much the grant will be worth but said it will be “significant” and added “it’ll be good”.

I suspect however that the boiler scrappage will not be open-ended but for old boilers that are near end of life anyway

So is this to replace a kerosene boiler with a newer more efficient one? Or an additional incentive to move to heat pump?

“I'll be bringing forward, subject to government approval, a boiler scrappage scheme will have grants of up to €14,500 to replace oil boilers, kerosene boilers with new technologies.”

I'd love to take this up but would need to make my house more energy efficient first and the external insulation on a detached house is quite pricey
