'broken' DVD disk - not finalised

Does anyone know of any tools that can be used to un-break a DVD disk (not sure at the moment whether it was -R, -RW, +R, +RW or RAM but I can find out) that appears not to have been finalised before being put into a player ?

Someone I know recorded 3 DVDs on their new camcorder and while 2 will play back correctly in their home DVD player, the 3rd one won't. They are sure that they pressed the record button, didn't have the lense cap on, etc . . .

The only thing I can think of (after reading the manual for my new camcorder) is that they didn't pay sufficient attention to all the warnings that said "do not stick a disk into another player before finalising it"

I'm sure there must be some tools out there for un-doing the badness caused by not fainlising, but I don't know what they are.
