My partner and I really love Bray and are considering buying there. We are both in our late 20's and still enjoy socialising (I'm not assuming that anyone older doesn't). Has anyone any advice about the area - restaurants, bars, shopping, etc

Cheers

Sorry for stating the obvious, but why don't you and partner go there tonight/tomorrow/whenever and check it out for yourself by driving around/walking around/....

We have spent some time there but I would appreciate the advice of someone who actually lives/lived there. I can't really judge as well.

Bray has a few pubs and clubs.... it depends on what you are looking for really.

The Porter House Back Bar is probably the best.
Jim Doyles has a night Club also know as the Back Bar(I think) then the Martello has a club, the coo I think it's called. Then there is Katie Gallaghers, not too hot on that place. Dusty Millers is in the town, near the cinema.

Bray is by the sea, lovely for the walks but there is a shortage of shops and restaurant but it really needs a revamp. There is plans for that but when that happens god knows!

Restaurants -There is The Barracuda down the seasfront, PALAZZO (Italian Cafe) opposite also which is realtively new and quite nice if you are into Italian. Pizza and Cream on The Albert Walk and there is an Indian and Chinese down near Superquinn.

Shopping wise, there is Tesco, Superquinn and Dunnes, shops for clothes not a hell of a lot unfortunately. A few hidden treasures on occasions!

Try visiting Greystones also nice places to eat and few good pubs, some nice shops taxi should be only about 8-10 euro also just to note.

There's a good Indian down near the amusements, can't remember the name.

Ken's (Chinese) is upstairs in the Superquin shopping complex - loved it there.

Also quite like the cafe in the Superquin centre - good for a fry etc.

One thing Bray is definitely good for is bakeries and the kind of cafes you go into to have a cup of tea and cake while out shopping. All close at five or six though.

Katie Gallaghers has a bit of a reputation for a rough crowd - think it tends to be a younger crowd, spills out onto the road a good bit. Great place for lunch though.

I also like the Harbour Bar, which is around near the yacht club. It's not very salubrious but good atmosphere and the kind of cosy, comfy place I like.

Have to qualify all the above by saying I haven't worked in Bray for about three years but as far as I know all the above haven't changed much.

That was the Mehek ... long gone, I'm afraid. It's now an Apache pizza place.

There's talk of redeveloping the old Bray Golf Club lands with a large Dundrum town centre scale development. http://www.braytowncentre.com

If that gets past the planning objections it should improve the range of shops so residents will not have to travel into Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown so often.
