boxing off pipes in bathroom

hoping to replace floor standing unit in bathroom for a wall mounted one but dont want to go ripping tiles and wall to chase in pipes etc

just wondering how subtle you can really box off pipes , would it always be noticeable if you have a protruding structure underneath ?

can you perhaps attach tiles to MDF or plywood so as to blend in with broader surroundings ?

read online about folks who even place artificial plants in front of exposed pipes , sounds a little daft ?

You can box in the pipes and then tile over the boxed in pipes. Just make sure the boxing doesn't have any give, tiles like a solid inflexible surface.

Great, so tiling over wood is not a problem?

You can certainly tile onto wood, most bathroom floors are done that way. However you’d be better off using concrete board instead of the wood, or on top of the wood if necessary. It’s much stiffer and closer to plasterboard for tiling onto. It’s as easy to work with as wood, if not easier because you just score a line then crack the panel to create the pieces you need.

Always worth tanking any joints etc if you can, will reduce the chances of leaks (grouts is not waterproof!) and strengthens the joint so grout cracking is less likely.
