Why are general discussions on banking allowed on the forum formerly known as Dire Straits.

I thought the purpose of this forum was to help ordinary people who had fallen into serious financial difficulties?

I suggest general banking issues be moved below the line to DAAM or LOS.

By consensus the moderators agreed a while back to convert the erstwhile Dire Straits forum into a more general Borrowing, Banking and Credit Cards because (a) there were very few genuine "dire straits" financial queries (b) most of the financial queries were more accurately categorised as general banking, borrowing, credit card and debt queries and (c) many of the other ostensible "dire straits" queries were about stuff like redundancy and even more general life crises. If a "dire straits" query does arise then the same forum is still probably the most suitable place. The other types of queries can also be directed to more suitable forums. As ever the is a delicate balancing act to be performed in terms of having specific enough forums without having an individual forum for each detailed subject matter.
