Hmm.. Before you switch over to bord gais you have to submit a final reading to ESB ...so ....just a theory...supposing you gave the ESB an underestimated reading then you would be paying the balance at the cheaper bord gais rate when you switch over...no?

You switch to BGE or Airtricity. They send notification to ESB who then take a final reading and close the ESB account.

Well thats how BGE explained it on the Last Word.

No, you don't submit a final reading to ESB. You give your current reading to Bord Gais. If they did not have a backlog of applications they would switch you from that reading. However, because of the backlog thousands of customers are being switched instead as from the next scheduled ESB Networks meter reading. There is no question of ESB Networks going out to do a special read.

Unfortunately, this basic industry accepted norm is not widely understood by the agents at Bord Gais' outsourced call centre - Conduit in Dublin. As a result they are telling many of their angry customers (who weren't switched until a month or more after applying) that the reason for the delay is ESB's when in fact it is theirs.
