Bonus entitlement after giving notice

Hi

I would appreciate some advice on what the following lines in my work contract mean.

To be eligible for a discretionary bonus payment, you must be in continuous employment prior to 1st October of the performance year and must be in employment (and not under notice of termination) at the date when the bonus is payable.

I was initially under the impression it meant that no bonus will be paid if my employer has put me on a notice of termination. However it may also mean if either party has given notice?

If anyone can clarify, I would be much obliged.

The bonus is generally paid in March for the previous calendar year and my notice period is 3 months. I have not given my notice yet but may do soon.

In the bank I used to work in, we used to play resignation bingo on bonus pay day to see if we could identify the people who would hand in notice the moment, the bonus hit the bank account.
