Hi,

Im just looking for somewhere to save 20/30euro a week and was looking at this the bank of ireland smartsave account. Was wondering what anyone thought of it? I have a BOI account thats all!
thanks.

With a little bit of effort you could do a lot better than a BOI smartsave account which currently only sports a .5% EAR return.

Your original post indicates you want to save regularly but since you mentioned:

... is it save to assume that this is a current account and thus you might benefit from setting up a savings account to handle lump sums?

Checking the best buys stickies reveals the best canidates in terms of returns for both regular and lump sum savings:

There are other factors apart from the % return that you might want to consider as well. For example I chose the First Active Regular saver. While it doesn't have the best rate for regular savings it isn't that far off the top mark and:
-It works by standing order instead of direct debit.
-Can access the funds online if needed.
-Very flexible at been able to choose to lodge between €1 - €1000 a month.
I might have chosen the Anglo product since it doesn't need any DDs / SOs at all though the online access is read only... (as far as I know)

There you have it, take your time and consider carefully what would suit you the most.

Hiya thanks for the reply. I will check out those links. Yes your correct i want a savings account that i can add money to if i want. I thought it looked good as I could just have the money been taken out each week and not worry about it.

I have a credit union account and have savings with them to but not getting much with them!
