blocking space uder the gate

I am trying to help a friend block the space under gate to the garden. It is only 6 inches high. I saw some wire fences in woodies that are for flower bed i think and wonder if this could work/ Only thing is the ground is cement so would screwing it to the back of the gate do?

What about trellis? Does it have to be the exact width and completely extended when up And,any other suggestions welcome.

I was thinking along the lines of maybe dropping the gate six inches...Change where the hinges are now...would that be an option?

Thanks for the reply but i think that would be a big job. I wil have a look though. EDIT it just occurred to me that doing that would mean making a new hole for the bolt as well
 
gate problem suggestion.

Just a suggestion, try a piece of coated roofing felt, can be got in most good hardware shops. fit it to the inside of the gate and it will act in a sweeping fashion when the gate is opened.its quite durable so should last a good while

It would take a little time,but would be a neat job when done...Westgolf has come up with a good suggestion there too....hope you get sorted.

that is a good idea. is it strong/heavy? my friend has cats going through and peeing on flowers/plants. Could they push against it and go through? If it were hanging down like a car mud flap, for want of an analogy, and heavy enough not to blow in the wind would be great. Will check that out. Many thanks;)
 
if you get the coated felt and hang it like the car mud flap as you said the trick is to leave a little extra so that the felt sits on the ground. In your case say 4.25 inches. cats hate the surface coating of the felt as its quite rough. thats because its designed for roof work

Providing the entrance is not on a slope, why not use stained / treated 6" skirting with an inch overlap on the gate.

The strip for the top of the gate is Prikka Strip and is made of plastic.
 
It would look better if screwed on the outside. The stain looks like red cedar, so paint it the same.
