Birds pecking a hole in my milk delivery

I get milk delivered. I used to get a 2 litre plastic bottle of milk, but then switched to two 1 litre cartons because I changed the type of milk I get.

Anyway, since Ive been getting the cartons Ive had a few incidents where magpies peck a big hole near the bottom of a carton and all the milk drains out!

How do people protect their milk deliveries from birds pecking them open?

My neighbour has a plastic box, and the milkman puts the milk under it. Aren't magpies clever tho? Could you leave them out a bowl ? ;)

Ill look into a plastic box. Do you know where your neighbour got it?

The magpies are seriously smart!! I considered leaving them something more attractive than my milk alright but I dont want to attract more of the cheeky beggars!

The neighbour has an old one from Premier dairies. But I think any plastic box from Atlantic or Woodies would do the trick.

magpies and crows do it at my mams house in galway - she just uses an upside down plastic crate - fiver from woodies

Years ago nearly every house had a box, crate or block of wood for the milk. The milkman always knew to cover it.

I know - but that was when it was bottles, I didnt know the magpies had graduated into pecking through cartons!!

Just an update on this. I spoke to the milkman and apparently this is a common problem, the dairy provide covers for people this happens to - so this morning I came out to collect the milk and it was under a nice plastic dairy cover.

That's brilliant! Not that your milk was getting nicked on you by birds but I'd forgotten just how clever magpies are
