Need to replace myvacuum cleaner. This is the 3rd in 3years. They never do what they say on the tin. Have bought cheap ones and mid price ones. Want to go top range now but not sure which is the best.
Would be greatful for advice

We have a really good Nilfisk one with an allergy filter (I have asthma so it keeps dust at bay) and it's bloody great - cost about €200

Definitely the best for me is Meile TT Cat & Dog. I have this for nearly 2 years and it still has the perfect suction that it always had, even with dealing with a hairy golden retriever.

There has been threads on here before about vacuums, so have a search.

I have a miele too. It is not the cat and dog one - but it is very good - before that like you I had a cheapo yoke - this will outlast them all.

If you search old threads on this subject, you will find the AAM contributors love their Mieles.

+1 we have our Miele Cat & Dog for over 5 years or more and not a bother

+ 1 for the nilfisk, i actually got mine for free on freecycle when i bought my house as i couldn't afford one 3 years ago as a stop gap measure & its still going strong.

Another Miele fan here. I don't have the cat and dog one (even though I have a dog) and I just love it. Will never get another brand again.

Thanks for all your replies. You have made my search so easy. Looks like Miele is the one. Had thought of Dyson, but after all the positive feedback about Miele, I will hit the shops at the weekend.

Dig deep in those pockets. Miele are excellent but expensive. They're said to last longer and require less maintenance which makes them a good long term investment.

Not sure which is the best, but I'll tell you which one NOT to buy - a Samsung.

I got one at half price in Argos a couple of years ago (still cost me £60) and its truly awful. It tends to push the dirt around for a while before deciding to lift any of it, and even then it doesn't seem to lift it all.

I am thinking of replacing it and am considering a Nilfisk or a Henry.

My mum has owned a Nilfisk for over 30yrs and its a great vacuum and still going strong. You get what you pay for.

I have 2 Dysons: one small portable one that I use for the car and to clear DYI dust and a regular big Dyson. I have had the big one for 5 years and it is still as good as new. Easy to clean and very reliable.
