Best place to buy Sony radio ?

Elderdogs parents, having reached a very advanced age, rely very much on the wireless.

Hearing and eyesight ( not to mention fingers ) dont work very well at all with them.

That is my excuse for looking to buy something like a pair of Sony ICFM410 radios. It has a number of preset buttons so they wont have to worry about the silly tuner knob thing and the base is wide so ( unlike many radios today ) it would seem to be quite stable. ( I notice however that it is FM MONO ... Sony quality I guess )

The question is where to buy them.

I'm just at the early stages of this. Initially I came across one in Currys. It was on a shelf with a 49.99 sticker below it ( which price I was happy to pay ). Was told at the checkout that it was 139. Left it there - not happy and with a very bad view of emporium concerned.

I see on the web similar ( but not the same ) item is under USD 40 and in the UK the actual item is around GBP40 - GBP50.

Where is the best place to buy one of these ? ( Should I buy from Dixons next time I'm in the North ? )

Does it have to be Sony? Have you tried Argos for radios with station presets?

...

Does not have to be Sony. Just picked it because it seems to be nice and clear with no little buttons that might be pushed by accident / not seen

Went to argos.co.uk. Some of their Robert radios might do - hard to know without seeing them in the hand how they would come out on the 'no silly button test'

Re: ...

The good thing about Argos it that you can try them out and return them if they don't suit under their 16 day no quibble money back policy (with the exception of a few items). Alternatively just ask at customer service to see them before you buy if you want. CQ Communications on Ormond Quay might be worth checking too as a specialist radio gear shop.

Re: ...Radio

If you like the one you saw in Curry's, why don't you go back with your evidence of the UK price and point out their mistake? Obviously the originally posted price was closer to being correct than the €139 price.

Re: ...Radio

No harm in haggling but do note that just because a shelf price is lower that the till price that doesn't give you any statutory right to purchase the goods at the lower ofthe two. "Invitation to treat" and all that jazz...

At Amazon the ICFM 260S 2 band is £32.30

Thank you all

for guidance.

Worked the 'phone today... Sony Centre price Euro 79, Dixons Euro 80

O. : looks to me Currys was not so much an Invitation to Treat as an invitation to Trick or Treat
