This case is more than just a faked salary cert. It involved forgery of of P60, payslips and an identity card. As with these things, there are different shades of grey, this obviously being a darker shade than other cases.
And yes, putting inflated figures down on salary certs was common place during the Celtic Tiger, often encouraged by the bank rep who was earning massive amount of money from the commissions they were earning from writing mortgages. Lots of other loans issued without any paperwork at all!!
