BBC: World News & Stories app not working

To add... based on the discussion on Digital Spy, this seems to be a reactive move by the BBC out of concern re: international music rights.

We also had the BBC announce the closure would take place in Spring 2025, but it was pushed back to July.
In the original plan, I don't think there would have been any option supported directly by the BBC site for listening to channels other than R4 and World Service.

@ClubMan U post a lot of very helpful stuff for people on this site - so firstly thank u for that. So I will see if I can try and help you here. I don't use BBC sounds but I have just downloaded the BBC: World News & Stories app and it works on my phone.

U are very knowledge about these things I know so I am sure u have done all the usual - cleared cache, uninstalled and reinstalled the app etc. The usual stuff.

I notice it needs Android 7.00. The app version I have downloaded is 9.0.4.1

If u want to throw any questions my way feel free to do so and perhaps we can isolate what may be the issue with your older phone.

I've already tried uninstall/reinstall, clearing data/cache, checking permissions etc. to no avail.
My phone is Android 9.
I could try looking at the low level logs but I'm not going to spend more time on it - the website access to R4 will do for now.

I figured as much - u are very good on this stuff. Makes sense to take a break and perhaps revisit later.

It could be something as simple/ complex as interference from another installed app on your phone. U have probably already uninstalled the old BBCsounds.

Yes.

To be honest, my phone is a bit idiosyncratic generally at this stage and it's long overdue a clean install but I never seem to get around to it.... :confused:

Reminds me of an episode of Noel Edmonds Swap Shop of a Saturday morning.....

A young viewer called in and after a bit of chit-chat Noel asks "Where are you calling from?" Viewer replies "<county> in Ireland" (i cant remember which county but was in 'The South')
Noel frowns and says "I don't think you should be watching us, should you?"....
