Bathroom refurb including painting the bath

We are going to do up our bathroom a bit. The only prob we have is that it has an avocado suite. When we moved into the house over 10 years ago that suite was in and we just got tiling up etc and the room otherwise looks fine. Budget is a big problem, so what we are thinking of doing is replacing the pedestal sink and toilet for new white set and are strongly thinking of painting the bath(this has not been used once for a bath since we moved in)and rarely for a shower even as we have on suite etc..

Have researched and it seems possible. My question is what material is my bath likely to be made of. it feels like strong plastic but is it likely to be acrylic or are they the same type of material. If so does anyone have opinions on this and what paint to use.. thanks
 
I would have thought that painting would only work with a cast iron bath and would have to be professionally done to have a decent finish. Replacing the entire suite may not be out of your reach if you get an end of line floor model or from the likes of gumtree. I found [broken link removed] which although cream would be a bit more palatable than 70s avocado. Found too where the prices seem very reasonable

Thanks. According to websites such as this one though it seems very possible. Its not the actual cost of fittings its the cost of the work involved if the bath is replaced. It means stripping tiles etc whereas all we need to do literally is turn the suite white! Toilet and sink is easy ,only minimal rejig needed so if we could paint the bath it would eleviate all the labour. At the end of the day when bathroom is done we'll still only be able to do what we are doing now in it!

I had a chockolate coloured bath re-enamelled white, it looked great but the enamel kept coming off around the plug hole, and was repaired several times
