Every single Green Party TD ever elected in Ireland would fit in one minibus. They are a tiny party. The PDs were bigger.
It must be very satisfying for Eamonn and friends to see people still enraged that the Greens were so successful at getting their manifesto pledges over the line...
Anyway, Barryroe is a weak case that differs from Rockhopper in several important ways, but even if it did succeed in arbitration it's unlikely they would get more than 20% of their claim.
If they were genuinely interested in a solution they would be pushing for massive changed in farming and what we eat. That's a way bigger problem that fossil fuels.
Not if we invest in renewables like wind, solar and most importantly, Nuclear. Again, the ideology of the Greens gets in the way of an actual solution.

All needed to meet the ever rising demand for electricity across the world. Which will decrease the ff %. But all the available ff will still be used.
Possibly. We'll still need it for plastics as I presume people will still want their artificial hips, cardiovascular Stents, Contact Lenses, Pacemakers, Eye-glasses, and all of the other tens of thousands of things that we make from Petroleum.
We won't need to burn them to make heat and move things and that accounts for 85-90% of our consumption at the moment. That doesn't require any scientific breakthroughs, it requires the political will to adopt existing economically viable technology. In our case that's Nuclear and more Wind and Solar but without the Nuclear bit we'll never go below 40% Fossil Fuel usage for power generation.
None of that changes the fact that we'll still need to Fossil Fuels for power generation for the next few decades and so securing our own local supply is a strategic economic imperative.
Inndeed we do neet to invest in solar/wind/wave etc, but until such time as we have enough reliable capacity, we need fossil fuels. We also need to consider the solar/wind/wave technology. Are we simply allowing slavery in China and Africa to mine the stuff for batteries, solar panels, and wind turbines? Much of the material in these is petrochemical based.
Ireland has Oil and it is a shame to simply let it there, when it could be assisting in this time of climate and fuel emergency.

Exactly, now we are dependant on the whims of trump and the iranians regarding our supplies. If barryroe had been brought online we would have a secure supply independent of the whims of putin, trump and the other authoritarians. We would have been part of the solution to europes energy needs. Sometimes the greens and the hard leftists turn out to be the useful idiots of trump and putin unintentionally.
It is very viable ,if the oil price hadn't collapsed after financial crash and for a decade afterwards it would already be drilled and in production. Providence resources could not get a partner to actually drill it, but they did prove up the reserve before running out of money. It was also a period of underinvestment in new reserves due to the low oil prices and the oil majors were courting the "green agenda" themselves by publicly not looking for new oil, remember BP changing its initials to "Beyond Petroleum" . All that has gone out the window now as BP have ditched all that. The fact that there was all this underinvestment in new oil and gas reserves made the west more dependant on Russia and opec, that was also a factor in putin's invasion of Ukraine as he knew Europe was so dependant on russian energy therefore they could not resist him too much. In fact the german push for green energy from wind and closing its nuclear plants made germany highly dependant on russian gas. We now see the results of all those badly thought out strategies. Eamon Ryan stopping barryroe was another bonkers and silly policy totally removed from the real world of energy
The move away from oil was a great idea. The problem was that it wasn't replaced by anything viable. Wind and Solar cannot replace oil. If we are serious about mitigating the effects of man made climate change, and yes it is real and yes, it is the single biggest issue facing the world, then we need massive investment in Nuclear.
A single pellet of Uranium Fuel (about the size of a Gummy Bear) produces the same power as 550 litres of oil or a Ton of coal and it does it without producing a single molecule of greenhouse gas.
So, if we have a viable alternative to oil and gas then stop producing oil and gas to produce power. Until then we need it and we should use our own.
