Heading to Barcelona in mid Sept for a few days, any one have any tips on things to do, good quality restaurants, bars etc...thanks!
 
Be careful. Some friends were there recently and had money, phones, etc. stolen on the metro trains..... Also, see below.

Open top bus tour covers the main attractions .

Are Barca or Espanol playing at the time you are visiting ? , visit the Camp Nou museum & shop.

The Ramblas, the main drag leading to the port is not to be missed.

Try the Sangria de Torres ( one of Spain's foremost wine producers )restaurant

Do be careful of your possessions - never leave bags unattended , don't hang jackets on the back of chairs in bars or restaurants , be careful on the metro - just a few precautions & you'll have a great time.
 
If you're into art and architecture visit Guell Park, the home of Antonio Gaudi who designed the unfinished cathedral, La Sagrada Familia. Both of these are well worth seeing along with some of his other buildings dotted around the city. There's a great indoor market just off Las Ramblas. You will find lots of lovely restaurants in the large Plaza Real(square) just off to the right of Las Ramblas (walking up from the port). Its a fantastic spot to idle away a few hours over your evening meal and there is often live music and street theatre going on. We went in September too and found the weather just right - warm enough but not uncomfortably hot so enjoy your trip.

Stop with scaremonger tactics. Barcelona is a great place, theft could happen anywhere. I recommend doing the open top bus tour, one of the best IMO. The market in La Ramblas is worth a visit and the Barcelona Aquarium is fantastic. Even if you are a not massive footie fan would recommend getting in a game at Nou camp and visiting the museum, atmosphere in the stadium is the best I have ever experienced, even the missus loved it.
 
Been there 4 times - don't think it's any more dangerous than any other major city. Just be a little bit alert.

Eat in Los Caracoles, just off the Ramblas. Eccentric sorta place - you walk through the kitchen to get to your table! Whets the appetite nicely.

Best tapas is in the Cerviceria Catalunya, C de Mallorca. Brilliant.

Go up to Parc Guell. Beautiful, and great views of the city.

Obviously if you've even the slightest interest in sport, the Camp Nou is well worth a visit.

Just there once, bus tour is one of the best, as another poster has said. I second Parc Guell. Well worth a visit. Loved all of the Gaudi related buildings etc, La Sagrada Familia is amazing.
 
Been to Barcelona many times and really enjoy it. Had wallet taken once but was own fault - in hubby's back pocket on escalator leaving the airport. Have never felt unsafe but restaurants always recommend no bags hanging from chairs etc

We go to the same two restaurants at least once when we go there for a weekend because the food is really nice and the locations are only slightly off Las Ramblas but still buzzing area. Both have outdoor seating but queues can build as the night goes on

Barcelona is a beautiful and vibrant city - you'll have a great time! Bring your walking shoes and just use your common sense regarding wallets, phones etc - its no different to any other city in terms of theft.

Definately recommend the open bus tour, great way to get around and you can hop on/off at various places of interest. I thought La Sagrada Familia was spell binding, be sure and visit that. Dont try and do too much each day, its better to spend your time at a few places and relax and enjoy them properly. Have a great trip, wish I was going!
 
I find the most beautiful bit of the city to be the stretch between the Sagrada Familia and the old Hospital de Sant Pau. That stretch, known as "Avenida Gaudí" is beautiful, leafy (at least in summer), and a treat. Try going a block or two up (away) from the Sagrada Familia. Have pizza in La Piazzenza or ice-cream in La Jijonenca. Delightful!
 
Buy a T10 Metro ticket on arrival. This gives you cheap travel on the Metro. Of course, La Rambla (or Las Ramblas) must not be missed. Visit the port area and the old quarter. The open top bus tours (night and day - 2 day ticket recommended). If you dont visit Sagrada Familia, you might as well stay at home.

Soak in the Barcelona atmosphere. Look at the architecture, the design of streets and street intersections, the shopping, the light, the restaurants. The restaurants get cheaper the further you get from La Rambla and Sagrada Familia. But, you're in Barcelona pay the few bob extra.

Pickpockets:- Yes, Barcelona has more than its fair share of pickpockets. Most people deserve their pickpocket fate with bulging wallets sticking out of the back pocket of jeans (manna from Heaven for Fingers Gonzales). Place some beer mats in a cheap wallet "bulging from your back pocket" and let Fingers enjoy Cerveza Sol adverts.

Dont fall for a jubiliant Barca Fan throwing his arms around you singing "Amigos par siempre" while simultaneously relieving you of your wallet either. Lift you knee as fast as you can and enjoy your new 'amigo' rolling on the ground in front of you.
