Hi - does anyone know how Banks respond to their obligations under the Data Protection Act - ie if you request information they hold on you what do they respond with - your files ? - their commercial decisions ? - emails between staff - deliberations on loan applications etc ?

Or do they hide behind some clause in order not to provide this information as they do in standard letters indicating 'Bank Policy'

I have challenged a certain bank on this before. They must turn over everything they have on you. They cannot hide behind "bank policy". If you are after the reasons for a loan refusal it's the way to go as they will have to disclose why you were refused.

I once got turned down for a loan from one direct and as soon as I said that I wanted all info on me, the loan was instantly approved. Strange eh?

Did you get the loan and all the information that you had requested?
