Balancing Statement to receipt of refund cheque, time lag?

We received a balancing statement indicating a tax refund situation (paye) and wonder what is the time lag before issue of refund cheque at present (April 2013)?We were pleasantly surprised with the turnaround time of 2-3 weeks of our 2010 ! return, which we submitted the old-fashioned way, by post in March 2013. Thanks in advance for any feedback of recent turnaround time, as we await arrival of postperson.

I know from experience that having the refund directed to your bank a/c only takes a few days and sometimes is even in your a/c before you get the confirmation of a refund. However, as for a cheque the last time we were waiting approx 1 week. Hope this helps.
