My partner's father died in Aug 2023, leaving his widow living alone. She had been receiving half of his civil service pension since. However unknown to myself and my partner she did not apply for the widows pension as she thought she wasn't entitled to it due to receiving the civil service pension.
After enquiring on her behalf she has since been awarded the bereaved partners contributory pension, but as I checked she was only entitled to back date 6 months from applying, back to Jan 2026.
She was asking me when she is getting the rest, I just wanted to ask here if you can plead your case to backdate to her husbands death? She is 80 years old and she cannot take care of her finances alone, we do everything for her.
