Just had a tax bill for a payment for 1990. There is no explanation what it is for or no assessment. I had an accountant see to it at the time and was sure everything was in order. I still have the assessment forms for 1991 and was given a Tax refund. Am I entitled to an explanation? Are we never rid of the burden of mistakes 16 years later?.
They have certainly put in a lot of work for a bill just over €400

Does the letter not even say what sort of tax is being demanded - e.g. income tax, CGT, etc.? You seem to know what it might be related to. If you believe that Revenue are mistaken then send them the documentation that you have from the original return and results of same. In general Revenue can backdate claims for outstanding tax indefinitely.

All it says is income tax assessment 90/91
Return/assessment and amount

I have sent the documentation as you said. But it is very worrying that they can just do this. what next?
