Baby car seat - possible mildew - can inserts be purchased?

Hi - have just pulled our Jane travel system, which we bought about 3 or 4 years back from the attic to discover that the car seat (which doubles as a carrycot), has discoloured. It's possibly mildew or even mould (I haven't examined too closely as yet, but the spots still remaining after laundering). Any ideas if it's possible to buy the complete inserts for Jane matrix car seats? Or has anyone other suggestions? Should I get fabric dry cleaned or am I in for a new car seat/carrycot at this stage? I don't want to take any risks so would prefer to stay on the safe side, but my due date is coming up quickly and I'm frantic to see if I can get sorted - any info would be appreciated !

You are right to be careful in light of all the bad publicity with old mattresses.

If it were me I would ring somewhere like Tony Kealys and ask their advice re ordering a new cover or getting the contact number for the suppliers from them.

Hope everything goes well for you with the baby :)

S.E.

I'd be concerned that it had weakened the structure of the seat. Can you get a new seat that will fit the travel system?

I've just phoned Tony Kealy's in Dublin as a starting point, as that's where I bought it alright so they are going to get back to me during the week after they check. I'd say the car seat part itself is fine it's just the insert/cover seems to have little sections near the end with tiny black dots. If I could get a replacement complete insert that would be great, rather than having to buy the whole car seat as this particular one lies flat down and can be used as a carrycot. Even if I have to though the colours will probably mismatch at this stage, but I don't mind. I'm not sure if I'm overreacting and if there's any other option regarding trying to clean it up but I'm not sure even if the surface would come up clean could there still be mildew or the start of mould inside which could be harmful.. Have been on top of everything and it was hubbys job to just take down the crib and buggy which he has left to the last minute, after I had a night in hospital with a false alarm : ( If I'd been able to get into the attic myself would have had it down weeks ago ; )
