AWOL Rose Buds

Normally by this time of year I would expect to see a few rose buds growing on the roses. But I haven't seen many yet, either on the roses in my garden, on the roses in the housing estate shrubbery on in the roses at most of the garden centers that I have visited. Has anybody else noticed this? I wonder is this due to the particularly severe weather last winter?

My climbers and pots are budding like mad but I have been watering them during the recent 'drought'.

Don't know about roses, but certainly our hedges were very slow this year, although they've taken a big spurt in the last 2 weeks. Had to dig quite a few plants up over the weekend that we gave a chance to but they hadn't recovered from the weather. Great crop of dandolines this year though!!

My roses all have buds ready to go, some have even flowered. Have you fed them? Pack around a good quality manure. Water well. It has been very dry. A severe winter doesn't really affect roses that much. They are pretty hardy.

I've been talking to a few people recently about the damage the winter weather has done. It seems on the whole that anything deciduous survived while evergreens took a pounding.
