In the scenarios of either:
1) Ability to obtain 40 years service and full pension contributions for post 2005 public sector pension or
2) Inability to purchased notional/added for the single publice service pension (2013)
was thinking of taking out AVCs, Cornmarket appears to be the "default" but there is a few negative comments on here, is there a better alternative?

This is anecdotal only, but Cornmarket seem to do a reasonable job certainly in terms of meeting customers etc. and they charge well, maybe excessively.

Take out a PRSA AVC much better then the group schemes with Corn-market.

Much lower and transparent charges
Portable giving you access to a much wider selection of investment companies with no charges to move.
Cornmarket are part of Irish life and nearly all of the group schemes are with Irish Life who do not have the best performing funds available IMO.
Your the owner/trustee of your own AVC unlike the group schemes
Salary deduction is not necessary for tax relief as you can have your credits and cut off amended with revenue for free giving you your relief each fortnight in your payslip.
You don't have to deal with a Cornmarket rep trying to sell you rubbish you don't need.

If you need calculations done re retirement options pay a fee for the advice with a independent advisor that specializes in Public sector pensions.

Mula, Where can i get a list of the PRSA AVC with low charges or names of independent advisors that specialize in Public Sector pensions? Anyone you can recommend?

Would there be any benefit in starting one of these if you're only early twenties and just started out in the civil service in the last 2 years? Even contributing something minuscule and non-noticeable like 10 euro a week that could snowball by the time you retire? Already have plenty of other savings in place
