hi i am going to australia for a year which means i wont be a resident in ireland, so i will have to pay tax in oz. but i have investments here that are going to put me in the higher tax bracket here. these are paying into an irish bank account. so do i have to pay tax in both countrys.

so does any one know what would be the best way to pay as little tax as possible( legaly).

what are the tax breaks in oz like.

thanks.

Just because you go away for a year - that does not mean that you are not resident in Ireland.

Give a bit more information re the dates you will be away.

You may be resident in 2 countries at once, and liable to taxes in both countries, but there is a double tax agreement in place, so you should not be doubly taxed, even if you have to file taxes in each country.

i am going from end of feb for a year at least maybe 2.
do you have to become a resident elswhere to cut your residency ties to ireland or does it end automaticly. and how long is this.

i heard that oz and eire have double taxation laws.

does any one know what the levels of taxation are in oz for paye and investments.

thanks

Perhaps someone comment on the above.

Just off the topic....have you got a job prearranged Miller?

you need to be living in oz 180 days or more to be considered resident for tax purposes. You are still on a temporary visa and are not actually ever a 'resident' on that visa.
