I noticed there was a thread in 2004 regarding an attic ladder installer who was fitting aluminium ladders for around €140 compared with Stira who are charging over €450 today.

My wife heard there is somebody doing the same, or perhaps it is the same guy, in Drogheda and Swords. Same type of folding ladder and price so perhaps it is. Friends of ours got a flyer but chucked it as they have the wooden Stira variety. It cost them a fortune, nearly €600 for a wooden folding ladder and it creeks like hell and one of the steps is loose???

Think I'll find this guy and save a few quid for the pub. If anybody has any info, I would appreciate it...tired balancing on the banisters!!!

Thanks

Think I may have found the guy doing the ladders. A friend in swords just got a company to fit theirs and the guy fitting it told him about somebody doing the aluminium ones for €129.99 and since then they have been loosing customers to him. The fitter guy had the guys details?? He had already extended the hole for new wooden ladder when my friend asked if there was no way they could fit it in the same gap.He is sick....at that point I didn't ask how much he spent!!

Going to call them later so if ya need the number pm me. Don't think he has a website. He's an Irish guy and has a few people doing work when he's busy. He must just drop flyers around with a picture and information cause there's nobody doing them at that price in the local Drogheda Leader or the Nothside People.

A little bit off topic but, if anyone is interested, I was in B&Q in Mahon Point this morning and they have folding stairs, similar to Stira, for €99.

This may sound very lazy but if this guy is seriously doing them for €129.99, then I think I may just go with it. Every single time I go to those hardware place I end up coming back with something I didn't need in the beginning!!! Simple jobs around here keep costing a fortune as I need a different tool for everything!! Now there's an idea.....a ready filled tool box!!

Thanks Lex...looking for one of these. What about fitting it - job for a regular carpenter?

It'd involve cutting one or two of the joists so I'd say it is a job for a carpenter alright, unless you knew what you were doing. I don't think I'd chance it myself unless I'd seen one installed first.

B&Q and Woodies have similiar wooden ones like stira , both 99euros, but the Woodies one has a safety rail & the pole for pulling it down , it says on the pack it has instructions inside if the attic gap needs to be altered etc.
A carpenter friend said he can fit it no prob.
