Attic insulation (Type suitable for a dormer)

Dear all,
My mother's house has zero insulation in the attic. It is a bungalow converted to a dormer in the 70's.
I had thought that the easiest, neatest method of insulating it for her would be to use the expanding foam that is blown. I would prefer to get this blown onto the underside of the roof (atop rafters, felt etc.) Advice re this?
I am also worried that the house being a dormer might provide difficulties in insulating the conversions roof area jutting out of the existing roof. How can this be overcome?

Thanks for any help, advice you can give.
Regards,
Mohainle
