Athletic Washing Machine!!

Anyone know anything about washing machines. I kid you not, in the middle of every wash cycle, there's a huge commotion from my machine, a fairly big bang and it moves about 6 inches across the floor, then settles down to comlete the rest of the wash. Obviously something seriously amiss. Its an indesit about three years old, and not used too much. It's out of warranty at this stage

The Transport Bolts!!! Righhhht...better get someone to have a look at this I think. I really have no idea, if they have been removed.
 
Its either that or the legs on the machine haven't been adjusted. We got a new one recently and we had to adjust the legs or feet whatever they're called so that it wouldn't shake. The transport bolts look as though they are part of the machine so check the manual to make sure they are the right parts you are removing!
 
Take a look at the back of the machine, if you can see 4 big bold heads around the drum, they need to be removed. Or, from the front, can you grab the rotating drum and move it back and forth a little? If there is no give in it, it's likely the bolts are still in place.

Google the model number and find the manual online, should have pictures of what to look for.

We put in floor tiles recently (had lino before) and since then our washing machine is sliding around the floor. It dosn't seem to have legs to adjust. If we were to put something under it e.g. a bit of timber would that help or would the washing maching just fall off it?

Here kitty, kitty, kitty...

Inside your washing machine is a big lump of concrete. It's there by design, believe it or not, and acts as a counterbalance to stop the machine from going walkies when the drum (full of wet clothes) spins. You should ask your owner to remove the top of the machine (should be just a few screws) and (s)he will probably find that the bolts holding this lump of concrete have come loose.

When the bolts are replaced and re-tightened normal service will resume.

Caution: Water, electricity and kitties do not mix. Make sure that the machine is disconnected from the power before attempting this.
 
This thread reminds me of a funny story... dosen't help OP's problem but thought I'd share anyway...

I used to sell appliances and one day, I sold this guy a washing machine. A week or so later he'd had it delivered and rang me to ask about unpacking it properly... so I thought 'ah... transport bolts...'. I explained how to remove them and he said he'd already done that. He was phoning to find out how he should get the concrete out of the top... I kid you not...

Worse to come though... he said he'd "been at it with a hammer and chisel but still couldn't get it all out"... I slowly and gently explained it's purpose in the machine and was met by silence...

Said good luck to him and put the phone down... poor guy...!!!
