hi

Ive been asked to attend an interview for Assistant Staff Officer in a County Council.

Does anybody know what these interviews are like. Ive been with my current employer for a couple of years so i need to do alot of interview prep.

Thanks

Do you currently work with a local authority?

If not, it certainly will be an uphill struggle- as although 'outsiders' can apply for such vacancies, this is a promotional grade for 'insiders' i.e. clerical officers and persons acting as Assist Staff Officer

Have you looked at http://www.environ.ie (www.environ.ie), the council's annual report, annual financial statement, budget, minutes of recent meetings, local government act 2001, planning and development acts 2000 onwards, etc

Hope that gets you started- not impossible, but not easy! Well worth doing some prep for it- how long before your interview?

Hi, I am going for an interview shorlty with the county council for a clerical officer post. I'm the same as you, haven't had an interview for donkies!!!!
I rang a local recruitment company yesterday and told them the story and asked if they could do some interview prep with me. I am meeting with them and they are in the mean time getting some more info for me on the interview format from the council (Obviously not mentioning my name).
Just an idea but it might help!!!!. Of course I have to pay them for this service, not sure how much just yet.

Standard for both Clerical Officer and Asst Staff Officer is particularly high from my experience on interview boards for same. Unfortunately, a lot of temporary staff work within the system and also people who are already permanent in these positions looking for a move to x local authority etc

That said, i've seen an 18 year old manage to craic the clerical officer as against a graduate with a masters degree!

PM me if you wish and i'll give you some specific advice- also indicate what local authority
