Are HSE & Civil Service superannuation schemes linked?

If someone was working for the HSE and then transfers to the Civil Service, is there any continuity between the two superannuation schemes?

In other words - spent nine years in the Voluntary Hospital Superannuation Scheme and is now in the Civil Service scheme. Because they're both State schemes, is that nine years added to the Civil Service scheme calculations or is the deferred pension from the HSE scheme considered an entirely separate benefit?

Yes, both linked.

Both should be public service superannuation schemes, so service years simply transfer across.

I've a similar question, if someone were to go from a university job into the civil service, would the service years also transfer on a 1 to 1 basis?
