applying for rent supplement

Hello all, I am moving into a new flat next week and signing a lease. I have the rent supplement forms filled up (also by the new landlord) but am worried about being refused (I am currently on jsb by the way) because I know it has become more difficult since the july 27 budget.

One of the problem is that while I was in private accomodation for over 6 months, I have no record of it and this seems to be a core requirement now. Would there be a way of getting this documenation?I didnt have a rent book, stupid I know, and Im not sure of getting much or any help from my ex landlord now that im not giving him cash every month. I am still in private accomodation but have only been here one month and am leaving due to noise. I have not had my housing needs assessed. Is it a long drawn out process? I will be extremely short of money after I pay the deposit and months rent.

I have seen others on this board struggle to get it and am worried as I will not get my deposit back if there is a hitch with the rent supplement after signing the lease. I cannot afford in my current situation to be losing deposits.
 
Did you sign a lease or tenancy agreement? Did you apply for Rent Supplement at that address?

Housing Needs Assessments can take up to 6 months to complete depending on the local authority.
 
no i was in college while in that private accomodation and so unable to claim benefits of any kind. I was there for seven months, never signed anything while there. I figure I could still knock on the landlords door and that he could write a letter saying I rented from him for six months, if they would take that...being in private accomodatino for six months seems to be the major restriction, I just wish i had something to prove it, there must be a way to do it however, show my bank dd or something.

I realise im hasty in posting this, ill have more info after getting back from the local health officer on monday, just worried they will get me on some kind of stupid technicality. id have nowhere else to go.
