Anyone good with colours?need to match rug

Hi Im looking to add a bit of colour to my room in the form of a nice rug but Im getting confused as to what colour I should go for. With the price of rugs I don't want to make a mistake.

The room is a Sage green with beige elements in it also, dark wood floors and white skirtting windows.

I'm thinking of maybe a burnt/blood orange type rug? Any other colour suggestions that would complement the sage green, greatly appreciated?
 
If that was me, burnt/blood orange would probably be the last colour I would choose, unless you want to make a really bold statement, that is personal to you?? If you are looking to co-ordinate, then an oriental rug with sage, beige and grey (grey works really well with sage) or alternatively, you know those rugs that have material like a door mat, can't think of name of it, one of these in beige, they add a young feel, (I feel) to a room. Another colour that actually works well with sage and dark brown is pink, not cerise but stronger than baby pink.

i have no clue with colours so thanks for your help.

the problem is with my room is that is quite big (open plan kitchen diner and living room) and everthing is starting to appear sage,cream, beigey, dark wood etc...it all appears a bit dull. i feel like i need an injection of colour and i kinda dont know where to put it..........bear in mind i have no pictures, book cases in yet. all my lamps and lampshades are an off white.

any suggestions as to where to put in this colour i think the room needs....i always end up playing safe and probably will with the rug too...thanks :)
 
If the room is quite big how about a feature wall? Paint one wall a different colour. I think the dulux website by the way allows you to create colour palates where you can see what tones you would like with sage green. I would be inclined to go with chocolate brown myself and create tones of White/Sage Green/Chocolate Brown. I introduced burnt orange once in a living room (curtains and stools) but I found I went off it very quickly - thats a personal thing though. Good luck, try and find some online palates.
 
Well, we have a a brown sitting room, floor and sofa, oatmeal colour walls and like yourself it all started to feel very dull and boring so I went out and bought purple and cerise pink cushions which really injected a lot of colour into our room and a light beige rought wool mat. It is amazing what little things can really do in a room, even a picture for a wall that match your cushions on a sofa, or a lamp and shade. Little things, you just have to pick a colour to go with. So, just think, would pink or purple work....and go with this theme.
Gold and snow white go really well with sage/dark brown???? Just as dramatic an effect but instead of stark contrast you are using all neutral tones that go well, contrasting against each other.
 
I agree with Abbica that the pink/purple even aubergine colour range would go well with what you have already while giving it that bit of a "pop" you're looking for.

I also think you should be thinking of things like cushions and other accessories (trays, lampshades, ornaments, etc) not of a rug. Not only is a rug expensive (although you may be able to get a cheap one), but the range of colours available is more limited, and you may lose yet more sleep wondering exactly what size you should get and where to find it (I have been there).

One thing that really works well and might be helpful to you is to introduce a "cluster" of similar colours, like say red-cerise-burgundy, or burgundy-red-aubergine. It gives you another colour element without making it look too blocky (or bitty). And it's much easier to shop for ;)

Also, you say you don't have bookshelves or pictures in yet. You might consider getting dark wood book-cases and picture frames, which can give a bit of definition to a blurred-feeling colour scheme, esp as the bookcases will have multi-coloured contents, and the picture frames can too.

If you do go for a rug though, consider Ikea when they open in Dublin in July, they have excellent value in rugs (especially large ones). One of the ones with a large pattern might work very well for you (http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/categories/departments/Textiles/10692/?sorting=price)
 
Most decent rug shops will allow you to return the rug if it does not suit.

A rug is an excellent way of introducing colour and texture into a room. One thing to bare in mind is that you will eventually change the colour of your walls and will the rug then go with your new colour scheme, especially if you have invested a bit of money into it. I would either go with a really colourful rug or a very neutral rug maybe in a shag pile and Ikea have a great selection of rugs that won't break the bank.

Jmcc is correct, many shops have let me take rugs out on appro to try, so all you have to do is ask.

Try taking a photo of your room and putting a photo in of the rug in photoshop/corel/windows photo editor.
 
I would go with a vibrant pink/purple. because all those colours are mutted and making a bold statement might be just what your room needs! don't get something with an untricate pattern if you are going for a bold statement..go the whole way! and it's fun!
 
Brenno, if you really want to make an impact you need to go for a colour opposite green on a colour wheel. You want this rug to be an accent colour for the room - ignore the advice to get a neutral rug! it will just blend into the background. bland, bland, bland!
your instinct with orange is actually correct as this is opposite green on the wheel.
depending on the shade of green purple also would work - goes v. well with lime green.
In a few years you can change the rug, accessories and get a whole new look for the room v. cheaply.
