Was online last night at about 7pm. Logged off at about 8pm and then went to log on again at about 9.30pm, but there was no internet connection.

I checked all cables etc and all was OK. I switched modem off & on and rebooted PC, but still no connection.

I then rang NTL at 9.45pm and was immediately put on hold. I stayed on hold for 25 minutes before I hung up and rang again, only to hear an automated response to say that the Customer Services area is open from 9am to 10pm

Anyway, I'm not here to rant about NTL customer services, I just wanted to know if anyone else who uses NTL Broadband had difficuly connecting to the internet. I tried again this morning - still no connection

Before you ask, I'm in work now, that's why I can post here :)

Hi Boaber,

Glad to see this post as I wasn't sure if maybe my laptop had something wrong with it, as I had been installing some software.

I see in the event log, that DHCP isn't picking up an IP, and trying to repair connection or reboot doesn't get me one.

I think I'm in D15.

ps: last time this happened a few months back, it was up and down for about 2 weeks. I phoned in when it went down and when service resumed properly again, and they credited 2 weeks to a/c.

I'm in D22.

Just got through to thier Broadband Support after 10 mins on hold and the customer service advisor said that there was a nationwide problem with Broadband last night and that it resolved at about 10am this morning.

She advised that when I get home I plug out the modem & PC, then plug in the modem, wait for it to boot up and then plug in my PC.

Thanks for posting that Boaber,
that'll save me a long wait on hold.

Let's just hope it's true, I'll find out when I get home.
(it wasn't last time this happened, and they said something similar about expected fix time.)

Hi; How do I check the event log? Mine is down now as well since Friday. I too thought there was something wrong with the PC. When I look at the Network Connections in the Control Panel it says something like 'little or no connection and the there is a yellow triangle with a ! in it. I tried to repair the connection and it wasn't able to get the IP address

Could this be the same problem? When I plug the cable into the laptop, the green light comes on but the orange light is flashing very slowly when it's trying to connect to IE. Any advice greatly appreciated!!
I'm in D24, thanks

It was down for me again last night in D15.
I'm with NTL.

If we can't get an ip address, there isn't a whole lot you can do I'd say.
(well I could get one, it'd only work for a few seconds though.. so that's why you can maybe get to say, a google homepage and then get the try again screen after this)

As for the event log, I'm running windows server operating system, so yours may be different, but on mine off the top of my head it's something like control panel--> administration tools -->event viewer, then check the three msg type lists...

Thanks for that Resident

I'll have a look later...... and I'll also try this

Eeek, I think my problem maybe something different!
Hopefully someone tecky might be able to advise me whether this is likely to be laptop related rather than ntl related before I spend hours holding on the phone to them. Any input gratefully received!

Last Friday I plugged my laptop into my friends ntl connection and it didn't work then and has not worked on mine since! (Having said that I was out on a client site 3 months ago in another country and had my laptop plugged into their network and it has worked perfectly since then)

Anyway, last night I did this
plug out the modem & PC, then plug in the modem, wait for it to boot up and then plug in my PC.
and it's still the same.

I checked the event logs.
The system one has a message saying: Your computer has automatically configured the IP address for the Network Card with network address [address]. The IP address being used is [IP address].
The application one has a message saying; Information Level: error Internet connection not detected.

Do you think I have confused the network connection by plugging it into another NTL connection. Thanks in advance

Auntie
