Anybody reconsidering their travel plans to the States?

I went to New York for a week recently. If hadn't booked it a long time ago, I wouldn't have booked it now but wasnt prepared to cancel.
No issues at all at security pre clearance and no issues in New York. Not a MAGA hat in sight.

If you want to go and support Katie personally I would go for it.

I had to travel to the US in April for business. All my colleagues were getting worked up about being detained/deported for weeks.

I've never had an easier time at immigration in Dublin. Literally handed over my passport asked to look in the camera and was told all good.

In fairness I travel to the US for business at least twice a year so maybe they have got fed up asking me questions.

If possible I always try and go direct from Dublin so you preclear immigration. Have been waiting hours on occasions on the US side though.

Journal.ie reported this morning a need to list all of your social media handles on any visa application form but not clear if that included ESTA applications and if forums like this would be in scope or not.

@ClubMan I got my Esta when I booked my flights so I think I should be ok on that front.
I will of course report back to all with what the process is like if we do decide to go.

I have 2 American friends from the USA here, visiting me. They both have Irish passports and they both are afraid when time comes to go back to the USA carrying them at the same time.
They brought their Irish passports coz it is easier to travel in the EU with them but they are afraid going back coz of all the situations that have been published in the USA (i.e. Germans that were detained for days) as things do happen.
They both have deleted everything from their media apps too that could expose them in any way.

Of course nothing will eventually happen coz they are from the USA but it is the hassle and fear to think that it could that its provoking people to be so nervous.
I think I would go if I had a ticket bought but I defo will keep away from going to the USA until the clown is gone!.

Yes they have that its why they are so nervous about it. By they way I just saw an article in the Irish Times saying that those looking for a VISA will need to show 5 years of their social media!

I have a trip almost paid for but there will be additional costs, such as car hire and hotels and restaurants so I’ll be watching the exchange rate and also the politics. Security issues may cause delays but that’s about all. But given that it’s a cruise with lots of Americans there are some concerning aspects.

ICE generally don't comment on their actions. However for the example mentioned above and another high profile detention earlier this year, they did explain the reasons for their actions. One was visa related and the other was due to confidential information found in a persons possession. I won't share the links here but a quick google will find the info.

Interesting, can you explain further?

Thankfully not on social media, nor ever intend to be (excepting this site, which i doubt falls under the description) also on WhatsApp but that's it.

People will have to imagine my family dressed in matching pyjamas at Christmas rather than see the photo.... ( not that we have ever done that) ;)

No wishing my partner Happy Birthday " to the best wife ever" on FB while sitting beside them.

I'm comfortable with the people I know, most I've known since college, sometimes its tricky with family, just couldn't imagine dealing with this "unfriending" or "unfollowing" that I've read about, seems like too much trouble and drama tbh.

Imagine this will flag me as some type of jihadist or whatever is de rigeur.

Another reason not to travel to US.
