Any reason why i can't hand paint my kitchen myself ?

My kitchen maker tells me that while I can have my kitchen spray painted any colour I want, I cannot have the actual paint I want. For that I will have to get it hand painted, and he will need more money.

Having had Colour Trend and F&B colours made up in Dulux for the walls in the house, I know these are never an exact copy. I want my kitchen a particular F&B colour, and am wondering if I can paint it myself.

Also does anybody know if F&B paint will work in a sprayer?
 
Call me crazy but you are going to get a new kitchen fitted and then spray paint it yourself? I would leave it to the professionals.
 
I think F&B can only be handpainted but there is nothing to stop you handpainting the kitchen.You could ask a painter to do it and business being slow you might get a good price.If you have spend a lot of money on a kitchen you expect to last a long time so I would say try get the finish you want
 
I'm not sure what this current obsession with hand painted kitchens is.

If you hand paint something then you have to re-paint it again in 5 to 7 years.

While I believe F + B paint is supposed to be lovely and all the rage at the minute, I just don't get it.

A customer of mine asked me to get him some F + B paint........€61 for 2.5 liters.

I can't see what the difference is between F + B and all the rest.

OP if it was me I'd get the kitchen supplier to spray paint a close match to the F + B colour

I didn't intend to spray it myself. I was hoping to persuade my kitchen maker to have it sprayed with my particular brand of paint to get the exact colour I want. The "professionals" won't give me what I want.

It is precisely because I don't want a "close match", but an exact match, that I posted my question. I'm not bothered about the finish, it is the colour that concerns me. My colour in another paint will not be the same, so painting it myself seemed like my only option, unless I paid extra for this " hand painted " kitchen.

I agree with you about this term " hand painted ". As far as I am concerned, a thing is either painted or spray painted. Nobody talks about hand painted doors or walls. Just more nonsense from the Interior Design magazines. I used the term in my title, as I was wondering if there was some special hidden obstacle that only a professional could deal with.

Anyway, my kitchen man has agreed to the hand painting for no extra cost if I get the paint. And yes, it is a ridiculous price, but I will not be buying it in Ireland.

Me too. If the doors get stains/a build up of grease (which most kitchens will because of cooking) then you can possibly be damaging the paint if you try to clean them with too much elbow grease.

Hi Bluebells,

did it not cross your mind to get the paint matched by professionals, I have had F + B paints matched by a motor factors it looks to me to be an exact match when sprayed on.

If you walk around any kitchen shadows change the colours of the doors and drawers or where the light comes in.

I personally don't see the point in paying huge money for paint then paying huge money to put it on.

If your kitchen guy is hand painting the kitchen then you are doing well out of the deal.

I hope it works out for you.
 
Maybe when I've had paints matched before I didn't get the right people to do it, but it was done by a paint shop for me - I didn't know about motor factors doing it. Will they do emulsion for me as well ?

I have had wall colour matched, and the colour when up was simply not the same colour as my original sample, when the two were on the wall, side by side, in natural light. Maybe the base was wrong or something, but I just didn't want to risk the same with my kitchen. For future reference, do you think the motor factors people would be better than a paint shop ?

The lads in a motor factors match paint to the colours on cars so they have to be very good at matching but it is for spray painting.

The guy I always ask for is Steve in J + S motors in Dun Laoghaire.

I can't comment on emulsion you could always ask.

Could you tell me where you sourced your F&B paint from as am looking for some at the moment to do the same and paint kitchen cupboards. If you cant put up the details on a post could you pm me. Cheers
 
Webbs you can get F&B in Stillorgan Decor no connection with them just got lots of paint there recently
