Any ideas for disposing of cat litter?

[Caveat]

Currently we just scoop into a plastic bag, tie up and straight into the bin. Going through a lot of plastic bags though. Thought of maybe nappy sacks but they might be too flimsy.

Any ideas?

Thanks, had thought of this but strictly speaking paper shouldn't go into the general waste though.

Better than a plastic bag, and at least you are reducing the plastic, and reusing the newspaper.

Well maybe, but for the moment, plastic is at least permitted in general waste but paper isn't.

Our local waste collection company imposes, but I guess no-one enforces.

Feck it - newspaper in the black bin it is then.

I use nappy sacks. The Tesco own-brand or Superquinn own-brand ones are fine for the job. I've never had a problem with them.

I use little freezer bags, perfect size for the amount to be removed.

I used to have the same problem! I bought a litter locker recently & find it great. It's completely sealed so there's no odour. It holds about 1 - 2 weeks litter in it, and saves the amount of plastic bags you use!

Can you not get the litter that's like saw dust all rolled up into pellets? It eventually breaks down in the garden.

Not sure I understand the point of this - is it not just delaying the inevitable? You still have to get rid of the stuff presumably.

Well I'd say anyone with indoor cats does, yes. The alternative is to be awoken by howling & whining in the middle of the night as the buggers 'ask' to go out - no thanks.
