Any alternative to iTUNES?

I have a new iPOD but can't get the PC to recognise it (that is the iPOD icon does not apprear on the list of devices recogined within i tunes)

I have heard there are alternatives to i tunes , but dont know what they are called, has anyone used anything other than i tunes with an iPOD??

I find itunes pretty good, v.user friendly, worth the effort I would say if it's not installing properly. Might need to download a more recent version from apple, I think this is part of the install process if I remember...

I love itunes it looks so easy to use but I'm stuck on the installation bit. Will try again before exploring further

Unfortunately, the iPod does not show up as an external USB hard disk, so you have to use the iTunes software, as far as I know.
