Hi all,
Could anyone help me,cause am running out of time!this is the summary of my life, was born in 1970,finish secondary school in 1987,was a year at home, then entered the university in 1989,finish a degree course in microbiology 1994,couldn't get a job in my field, finally got a job with an aviation consultancy company in 1996,my contract expired after 4yrs,was unemployed for 2yrs,start a business in 2002,but due to lack of some circumstances beyond my control ,the business fold up in 2005,it now dawn on me that I have to go back to my qualification to see if I could be absorbed back into my line of qualification, but because of gap in the year between time of qualification and with no experience couldn't get a place finally got a job as a lab aide,I decide to do M.sc in micro, was admitted but I 've got no funds to pursue the course.
I'm 38yrs now,I've just realized that about 12yrs of my life has been wasted!but I really want to get back on track with my life ,with my career, each time I think about this I'm always depressed, can anybody help me,advice me on the options I have?if there is still hope to resuscitate my career.

Are you really sure about this? You have been working at different things for most of this time, presumably have provided/fended for yourself and presumably have learned some stuff along the way. I doubt that this time has been wasted when looked at objectively.
but I really want to get back on track with my life ,with my career, each time I think about this I'm always depressed, can anybody help me,advice me on the options I have?if there is still hope to resuscitate my career.
I'm not clear on what you ideally want to do right now. Perhaps you can clarify?

Thanks clubman,I've not been a professional in all that I've actually been doing except for the fact the I had a degree in microbiology, which I didn't really pursue long enough.I'm saying at 38yrs old i'm not a professional in anything,is there a way to get my life back on track?

do you like micro and wanna stay in that field or do you feel tied to it because its what you did your degree in? would you be good at teaching? a food safety consultant?
in short what is your ideal (realistic) job?

I will really prefer medicine, but at my age now,I think it's quite late,I'm thinking about doing a Msc,and then proceed on to Phd,but am afraid of the cost involved like the tuition fee,I realize I need to re-invent myself, but I'm just short of ideas.

Re: An Advice on my career,Pls Help!.

You first have to identify what type of employment you desire and plot a course of action towards it.

Don't write off Medicine entirely, the postgraduate courses coming on stream are only 4 years in duration and with your degree in Micro you would be eligible.

If you are also thinking about a Ph.D, make sure you thoroughly investigate future career options. In this country, you are pretty much limited to a career in academic research/teaching.

this is simply not the case although many go on to lecturing and post doc and reserch a good proportion go into industry and work in a range of process support roles

Thanks so much for your ideas, but is there anywhere I can raise funds for this courses,is there any voluntary organisation that might be able to loan me..my credit ratings are not too impressive at the moment thus I cannot approach banks!.
