Annual leave accrual while on sick leave.

I understand that this directive came into force in August 2015; I am trying to help a friend to figure out her position. She has been ill since January 2015, but hopes to be back to work later this year, as all her treatments etc, thankfully, have been completed successfully.

Re the right to carry over the annual leave accrued, for fifteen months, after the end of the leave year, say her leave year ends in December; will she lose any / all days accrued in 2015, (for example) as she has been unable to take them, within the fifteen month carryover period, as she is still on sick leave?

Glad to hear your friend's health is improving.

Best bet is to talk to appropriate person (usually manager) and arrange a phased return to work. Ask if she can use up accrued annual leave and work say 3 days taking 2 days AL.

Carry over of leave from year to year is at the companies discretion but in my experience there's a lot of lee way when someone us returning after serious illness.
